Tecno Mobile started the year off by teasing a bezel-less smartphone, and after revealing that it was announcing a new smartphone on the 8th of January, the company finally unveiled the Tecno Camon CM on the 9th of January at an event held at the Ikeja City Mall in Lagos.

Tecno Mobile claimed that the Camon CM is its first FullView display smartphone, but people were quite sceptical about the authenticity of this claim, even after the device was launched. I wasn’t present at the launch event to see if the claim was really true, but we’ve gotten hold of a unit of the device for review. The Camon CM review is in progress and will be published next week, but for now, let’s unbox it and find out if it truly has a FullView display.
Packaging
The Tecno Camon CM comes in a black cardboard box with one of the wallpapers that come with Tecno smartphones on the top. The name of the device is printed on all sides of the device and its details are on the bottom.
It also comes with some free data offers from 9mobile and MTN.
Opening the box, you’ll find the Camon CM in the top layer, and beneath it a smaller rectangular box that houses a TPU case, warranty card and user manual.
and other items that include:
- A 13-month warranty card.
- 1 pair of earphones.
- 1 USB cable.
- 1 power adapter.
- 1 user manual.
- 1 TPU case.
- 1 SIM Ejector PIN.
A protective screen film also comes with it, but this has been fitted on the screen from the factory.

First Impressions
My first thought when I saw the Camon CM was how close it resembles the iPhone X, but on second thoughts it looks like pretty much any smartphone with an 18:9 aspect ratio released in recent times. The Tecno Camon CM comes with a 5.7-inch display with an HD+ pixel resolution.
The display quality is good; pictures and text come out sharp and clear.
Its navigation buttons are present on the screen.
The rear houses the main 13MP camera at the top left side with a Quad-LED flash beneath it.
The fingerprint sensor is also present on the rear.
The 3.5mm audio jack is located on the top of the smartphone.
Arranged from left to right on the bottom of the device are the microphone, micro-USB port and speaker grills.
The volume rockers and power button are located on the right side of the device.
There’s a microSD card and SIM card slot on the left of the Camon CM. The slot can take two Nano SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time, which is good for those who can’t depend on one network operator and still wish to expand the default storage.
On the front bezel at the top, the 13MP selfie camera is on the left side of the earpiece and its accompanying LED flash is on the right.
A notification LED is also present towards the far left of the top bezel.
The Tecno Camon CM looks really good and for a device from Tecno Mobile, I’ll say it’s well designed. It’s also slim and very light in the hands, making it easy to grip and operate one-handedly. Even though it isn’t made of metal, its design and aesthetics give it that premium feel in the hands.
So far, my experience with the Tecno Camon CM has been good. The highlight of the Tecno Camon series used to be just the cameras, but with the Camon CM, the brand has extended the focus of the series.
Tecno Mobile has been paying more attention to the Camon series lately, launching the Camon CM in the Asian market as the Camon i less than two weeks after the former was launched in Nigeria.
I’ll be using the smartphone intensively for the next few days and the full review of the Camon CM will be published next week.
If you would rather go on and buy the Camon CM now, it is available on Jumia for N47,000.
