The Ulefone Power 3 Review: not just about battery, but everything!

The demand for smartphones with big, huge and dependable battery backup is on the rise. This is perfectly understandable as the tasks we subject our phones to as increasing. In some parts of the world, the smartphone has replaced the laptop. We multitask, we game, we read, we work, we buy, we sell and do a couple of other things on our smartphones.

We are using our smartphones on a daily for almost everything, and this requires one thing – a complementary battery to keep our device up and running.

That’s where the Ulefone Power 3 comes in.

Heavy phone user? The Ulefone Power 3 has huge battery and almost everything else you need in a smartphone

The Ulefone Power 3 is a successor to the Ulefone Power 2 that was released sometime in March 2017. As it is already known that Ulefone’s “Power” series consists of devices with huge battery capacities, the Power 3 isn’t any different. In fact, we think it is the best battery-focused smartphone at the moment.

The device has been launched weeks back and so far it has been the subject of several positive reviews.

Design and Display

With the Ulefone Power 3, Ulefone jumps on the trending 18:9 aspect ratio, making the device longer as well as conferring a sleeker and premium look on to the Power 3.

The device is made of Aluminum alloy and this also gives the device a smooth and fine finish.

O the Power 3, the dual rear camera, dual LED and fingerprint scanner take up the uppermost part of the device’s rear. I mentioned it earlier already, but I should say again, the Ulefone Power 3 has a smooth feel on the rear. So smooth you wouldn’t wanna let go of the device when you hold it.

On the left side, the SIM card and SD card slots can be seen. The slot can be accessed by removing the tray using the PIN ejector that ships along with the device. To the other side (right side), the volume up and volume down buttons are located, likewise the power/lock button.

On the front, the large and almost bezel-less display can be found. On paper, Ulefone asserts that the device comes with a 90.8% screen-to-body ratio. In reality, that figure truly lies at about 76 – 78%. Nevertheless, if you ask me, it is a worthy shot at going bezel-less.

At the bottom, the USB Type-C port (for charging and file transfer) is placed in the middle and flanked to the left and right by speaker grills.

The device comes with a 6.0-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen covered by a scratch-resistant 2.5D curved display. Though big, fragile and prone to easy shattering, the display is duly protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass version 4 system. So, you have nothing to fear when your device falls from certain heights or gets scratched by your 2-year old boy.

Performance, Storage & Memory

Storage-wise, the Ulefone Power 3 pretty much amazes me in this regard. The device sports 6GB of RAM. This pretty much means you can run any heavy game on the Power 3 without facing clogs like heating or lagging. The device ships with 64GB of built-in memory and via the second SIM slot, the storage can be extended up to 256GB.

The Power 3 uses the MediaTek Helio P23 SoC which is designed to optimize dual SIM 4G LTE functionalities as well as dual camera optimization. The device uses the Cortex-A53 processor which has 8-cores (Octa-core) that clocks up to 2.5GHz.

Camera

In this department, the Ulefone Power 3 blew my mind. It super cut the mustard.

Most battery-focused smartphones I’ve come across usually only have the huge battery capacity to present as its best feature. That isn’t the case for the Power 3.

On the rear, there is a dual camera set-up. Same as the front. Making a total of 4 cameras. The rear camera set-up is made of a primary 16-Megapixels lens and a secondary 5-Megapixel Samsung S5k3p3 lens for bokeh effect.

The front also has 2 cameras of 13-Megapixels and 5-Megapixels secondary camera both with wider f2.2 aperture. There is also an LED flash (which has replaced the notification LED) for image brightening.

Battery, Connectivity & Software

The Ulefone Power 3 features a non-removable Lithium Polymer battery with a capacity of 6,080mAh. Though huge, the batter difference isn’t much different from that of the Ulefone Power 2 which had a 6,050 mAh battery backup, just a 30mAh difference.

However, despite the little difference, the Power 3’s battery has a special quick charge that would fill the battery up from 0% in 2 hours. And with a full charge, you can enjoy up to 3 days of talk time.

Yes. One other highlight of the Ulefone Power 3 is the operating system. The device comes out-of-the-box with the Android v8.1 Oreo OS. This means on this device, you will enjoy the many amazing features (like revamped notification, dot notification, Picture-in-Picture mode etc) of the latest Google’s OS.

Another one is the Facial Recognition Unlock feature, otherwise called the Face ID. Yes, the Ulefone Power 3 has that too. There are just so many security options – Fingerprint scanner, FaceID, Pattern unlock, PIN, Password, Voice unlock and more. And to think it comes at a very cheap price. This device is pretty good if you get one.

Ulefone Power 3 Price and Availability

The Ulefone Power 3 was announced and launched late last year (December 2017). The device was sold on pre-order for $219 exclusively on GearBest. However, after it was officially launched, price snowballed to $279.99.

However, via the link below, you can purchase a unit of the Ulefone Power 3 for only $229 on GearBest.
