Cubot X18 Plus: Cubot’s next big thing with 18:9 aspect ratio, dual rear camera and big battery

Cubot is a Chinese Smartphone manufacturer that is slowly and steadily moving up the ladder in the phone industry. With so many devices released over the last couple of months under the X, P, S series among other phones, the OEM is solidly rooting its feet in deep grounds in the industry.

The latest device off the OEM’s coffers is the Cubot X18 Plus, another step in the 18:9 aspect ratio and dual camera dimension. This is in fact the second dual rear camera smartphone from the OEM after the $70 mid-range Cubot Rainbow 2.

The Cubot X18 Plus is the successor to the Cubot X18 Smartphone and it seem Cubot took feedbacks it got from the X18, returned to the drawing board and made a masterpiece, the X18 Plus.

Here is a summary of what the Cubot X18 Plus brings to the table:

    • ∼403ppi pixel density.

  • 20-megapixels + 2-Megapixel rear camera with Autofocus, f/2.0 aperture and Dual LED flash.

Display & Design

Starting with the body build and structure, not much was changed from the X18. With a 158.5 mm x 73.6 mm x 8.55 mm dimension, the Cubot X18 Plus is the same size as the Cubot X18, but weighs more than it predecessor.

The device comes with an 18:9 aspect ratio and comes in a metal and plastic body mix. Available in Black, Gold and Blue colour variants, the Cubot X18 Plus is a glowing beauty.

Performance, Storage & Memory

The MediaTek MT6750T SoC that comes with the Cubot X18 Plus is a pretty good one. With support for LTE on Dual SIM, an average Mali-T860 GPU, MediaTek PumpExpress 2.0 fast-charge technology and its cheap price, the SoC is perfect for the Cubot X18 Plus, a mid-range smartphone.

The device comes with an Octa-core processor that is divided into two clusters. The first set contains 4 Cortex-A53 cores that clock up to 1.5GHz while the second set has 4 Cortex-A53 cores but with a clock speed of 1.0GHz.

Under the hood, there is an improved storage unit; 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal memory. The second SIM card slot even allows for storage expansion to the tune of 128GB via Micro SD card.

Camera

On the rear, right above the fingerprint scanner, are two 5P lenses for image and video capture. The dual rear cameras are of 20-megapixels (primary) and 2-megapixels (secondary) quality respectively, have f2.0 aperture and come with dual LED flash.

On the front, there is a single 13-megapixels 4P lens with fixed focus and LED flash in selfie duties. Images/selfies with high-resolution are assured on the Cubot X18 Plus smartphone.

Now you can always confidently take one for the gram. Always.

Battery, Connectivity & Software

The Cubot X18 Plus comes with a non-detachable 4,000mAh battery which can give a day of usage, depending on the intensity of use of course. The device ships out of the box with a 5V/2A charger and USB Type-C port which allows for Quick charging.

The X18 Plus will launch with the latest Android v8.0 Oreo OS and supports 2G, 3G and 4G networks.

Cubot X18 Plus Price and Availability

 Cubot will begin to sell the Cubot X18 Plus on Pre-order between late February and the early days of March 2018. The device has no fixed price yet but shouldn’t cost too much above USD 200.
